20 Things I Wish I Knew As a Teenager

20 Things I Wish I Knew As a Teenager lifestyle blog UK

Okay, so technically I am still a teenager and even at the end of the year when I turn 18, I don't think I am suddenly going to be calling myself a fully blown adult, although I may be, I definitely don't feel it or for that matter- look it! ( I still look 12 which is kind of embarrassing)

Anyway when I saw one of my blogging chums (Sorry I can never remember whose post I read and I read too many to trace it back) do a post like this a few weeks back, it made me chuckle but also reflect back at all the embarrassing things I used to do as a teenager. When I agreed with all the things they said in their post, I started to think of even more things. Let me tell you, this list kept going on and on...

So in true blogger style, I thought it was only appropriate that I share with you these things that I wish I knew as a teenager. Of course making amazing and cringey mistakes is completely normal and acceptable. But sometimes I look back and I think at all the things I worried about and how irrelevant they are now. Precious time wasted.

1. Nicole, American or camouflage leggings from Pilot are not a good idea. They are really in your face and a bit obnoxious if I am completely honest.

2. Don't worry about what the year 11 girls are doing when you are in year 7. Don't try and be 'cool' by having the worlds smallest bag you couldn't even fit your pencil case in. Stick with your trusty punky fish bag, it's a whole lot more practical.

3. Your skin isn't going to get better. In fact, it's going to get worse. Don't be disheartened by the ads that claim how amazing their spot removal creams are yet they don't work for you. Everyone's skin is different.

4. At home hair dye kits will always make your hair go back to the same colour- an amalgamation of every hair colour going! Dying your hair is time consuming and expensive. But really fun at the same time!

5. It's okay that you didn't start wearing makeup till you were 16. You really don't need to wear foundation to school. At the end of the day, you are there to learn about parts of volcanoes, how to find the right angle of a triangle and other useless facts. It's not a beauty pageant.

6. Equally don't stress about non-school uniform days. They really mean nothing at the end of the day.

7. Don't sit and spend your evenings arguing with people on MSN. It's pointless and a waste of time. Seriously Nicole stop it...

8. Don't stop eating Nicole. Your body needs food. You're not fat, don't think you are fat. The hours you spent obsessively weighing yourself were a waste of time.

9. It's okay that you didn't have a boyfriend at school. At the age of 12, they mean nothing. You will be glad later on that you didn't waste valuable energy worrying about them.

10. Although revision is great. Sometimes, Nicole, you need a break. Breaks are important for your emotional wellbeing- don't let studying take over your life.

11. Friends move away. It can seem like the end of the world. Trust me it's not. You make new friends and the world keeps turning.

12. It's not the quantity of friends you have but the quality.

13. Not everyone is going to like you. This is okay. The sooner you accept this fact, the happier you will be.

14. Dressing up as an old granny and posting videos on YouTube with your friends- was probably not the best idea you ever had.

15. Not everyone is nice and not everyone is as loving as you are. Where possible ignore the silly stupid things they stay to you. At the end of the day, they mean nothing.

16. A shorter skirt isn't going to make you a better person. Period.

17. You should never give up your hobbies in the fear of being embarrassed or ashamed because of what others may think of you.

18. You will always be shy and an introvert. When teachers constantly tell you to put your hand up more in class and you don't... Don't worry this won't negatively affect you in the future.

19. Take all the opportunities you are given. They help create precious memories that stay with you for life.

20. It's okay not to have your life planned out. Nobody does. If they say they do, they are lying. No one knows what's going to happen within an hours time let alone 10 years

And there we have 20 things I wish I knew when I was a teenager. Being a teenager is fab (most of the time). We all make mistakes which are fine but sometimes I wish I knew a couple of things that maybe would have made that process a bit easier.

What did you wish you knew as a teenager? Or are you a teenager now, what advice could you take from this post? ( hopefully something)

Thanks for reading, as always x
