You guys seemed to really enjoy my 30 Things You Will Understand If You Went To A British Secondary School Post, which you can read HERE if you missed it. Seeing the success of that Post, I thought it was only right I did a primary school version.
I really enjoyed primary school for the most part. I had a lot of friends, had a good laugh and I have lots of fond memories of my primary school. I went to an infant school before primary, so my primary school was from year 3 to year 6 and my infant school was from reception to year 2. I am aware not everyone's schools are like this, so sorry if you get confused with some of the references in the post.
I really hope you enjoy joining me on a trip down memory lane and reflecting back on the good old primary school days!
1. Going through absolute agony sitting on the hard floor during assembly for the first three years
2. And then feeling like a boss sitting on the benches in year 6
3. Feeling like Queen Bee when you to be in charge of the projector for assembly
4. Singing religious hymns in every assembly! Sing it with me! "He's got the whole world in his hands..."
5. The sheer embarrassment of one of your friends wetting themselves in assembly and newspaper having to be put down. Not making in any less discreet
6. Feeling like an absolute boss when you got to free reader, which basically meant not reading anything at all
7. Hating than one kid who messed up and made the whole class loose 10 minutes of golden time on Friday
7. Feeling like you were going to die when you had to walk on top of an upturned bench in your PE lessons
8. The best time of year being when the scholastic book fair came to your school
9. Having to do PE in the school hall after lunch, when the dinner ladies hadn't cleaned up properly! (Excuse me while I go and vomit my guts out)
10. Guaranteed to have at least one child in your class with yoghurt down their shirt after lunch when one of the squeezy yoghurts exploded on them
11. Spending all of your summer PE lessons outside making up games, playing rounders or practising for sports day
12. Having to sit through the most awkward sex education talk in year 6, where the teacher sits you in a circle and shows you what a tampons and pads looks like
13. Practically begging the dinner ladies every lunchtime if you could go on the field
14. Making 'birds nests' on the field at lunch when the grass had just been cut..nooo..just me and my nutty friends then
15. The sheer joy of having a film afternoon at the end of term
16. Getting high on fizzy drinks and cola bottles at every school disco
16. Getting high on fizzy drinks and cola bottles at every school disco
17. Oh and not to forget wasting all your money on glow bands and sticks that broke before you could even get them out of the disco hall
18. That one awful school trip where you had to dress up and looked like prats. For me it was Victorians and we got treated like shit for a day. What's the NSPCC number again?
19. Having your first sense of freedom going on a PGL residential trip in year 6. Boy, didn't you feel grown up?
20. Acting like absolute bosses when your team won at sports day!
21. When the hardest thing you covered in your maths lesson was long division and multiplication
22. Getting your name called in a Friday assembly to collect certificates for your beautiful work
23. Praying that you get to sit next to your friends at lunch in the dining hall and the dinner lady wasn't being moody
24. When music lessons just consisted of your smashing and banging about instruments together- not actually doing any music
25. Being forced to learn a language which you probably only know two phrases of
26. When ICT lessons just consisted of you doing touch typing practice with that keyboard that looked like it was in space. I actually want to do this now if it is still a thing!
27. Having to get changed for PE in separate rooms from the boys in year 6 because you were obviously all such sophisticated adults
28. Horses... Just horses. Don't lie and say you never played horses I know you did
29. Getting so excited when you had wet play because it meant you got to watch a film all lunch and do drawing
30. Feeling like the whole four years was pointless because it just leads to SATS which didn't mean much anyway.
Please let me know if you can relate to any of these things down below or if you have any other memories from primary school- I would love to hear them!

ReplyDeleteClaire ❤| My Little Memoir
No, I don't think we did! We acted out the Titanic once though...:) xx
DeleteThis is a fantastic post :) I now can't stop thinking about all of my awesome primary school memories! The Book Fair was awesome! I still have some of the books I bought there around my house; I remember the last one I bought in Year 6 was a mini Where's Wally book that came with a little magnifying glass.
ReplyDeleteI had both a great and horrible time at PGL. The activities were fun, but the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night and I panicked and didn't put any jacket or shoes on. We had to walk for about 20 minutes up a country road and I had all sort of rocks and pinecone bits sticking into the soles of my bare feet. I then thought it was a good idea to walk on the grass, which was absolutely freezing and covered in dew so my feet were numb and bleeding by the time I got to the place we all had to queue up and wait to go back to our cabins! hahaha I also made birds nests with the lumps of freshly cut grass :) x

ReplyDeleteCloe X http://clxelouise.blogspot.com

DeleteYes I definitely made the bird nests, maybe me and my friends were weird too, ha! It's so strange that sitting on benches in year 6 is a country wide thing, it's very odd!
ReplyDeleteI remember how mortifying the sex ed talk was, my teach put a tampon in a glass of water (you can imagine the size it went to) and I was horrified thinking that's what I'd be dealing with!

DeleteTo the time when maths was so simple... Kind of makes me miss junior(primary)school.
ReplyDeleteLoved this post xx
Thank you! I wish it was still as simple!
DeleteAt my primary school about half of the year 6 were prefects and we got to sit on 'special chairs' along the side of the assembly hall - Then I look at secondary school and it's the teachers telling you that if you don't listen you will fail at life.
ReplyDeleteYes, we had that at my school too! Oh your secondary school teachers don't sound very nice :)
