December Book Haul

December Book Haul book blogger books waterstones whsmiths ya young adult fiction

December is always the best month of the year to accumulate books. What with Christmas and everything. For me, I have the added bonus of having a birthday in December which means extra books for me. Smiley face. There is no getting around the fact that books are expensive. Which is why I like to ask for them for Christmas and Birthdays. I always think they make the perfect gift.

I am course super thankful and grateful for all the books I received this month. I realise how lucky and fortunate I am to have such a lovely and supportive family who can buy me all these fantastic books. But you guys know that I would never do these kinds of posts to brag or 'show off' I'm just dead excited because BOOKS!

This year I got a fair few books, some of which I asked for, and some were surprises. Because this post includes both books, I got for my birthday and for Christmas I'm not going to be able to go into lots of details about each one because otherwise, I think we would be here all day. So, I guess we better get started.

I'll start with the books that I got for my birthday. I got six books in total, all of which I was pleased with.

The sun is also a star- Nicola Yoon

I read Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon earlier in the year which I loved, and I watched the film too which I equally enjoyed. I whizzed through everything everything as it was such a short and easy read as well as falling in love with Nicola's writing style. I don't know much about this story. However, I do know that some parts are told from the perspective of the universe which I'm intrigued to read and find out if it works or not.

It's kind of a funny story- Ned Vizzini

I actually know a bit about this book, as I watched the film first. I loved the movie. I think it did a great job in accurately portraying what life is like inside a psychiatric hospital in the modern day world. I wanted to read this because I'm excited to see if the mental health portrayal is as good or better than it is in the film.

The curious incident of the dog in the nighttime- Mark Haddon

I've heard nothing but good things about this book. Even my psychology teacher gives it high praise. I know it's about a young boy with high functioning Autism and that's about it. I can't wait to give it a read as I like to diversify my shelves and include books about people from groups in society who don't often get a look in.

We need to talk about Kevin- Lionel Shriver

We need to talk about Kevin has to be one of my favourite films. As someone with a passion for psychology, I appreciate what the movie is about. When I found out the film was based on a book, I headed straight on Goodreads and added it to my TBR list.

Miss Peregrine's home for peculiar children- Ransom Riggs

I watched the film for this movie in 2016, and I fell in love instantly. Although I didn't know what it was about, I knew it was directed by Tim Burton, and I just love me some Tim Burton. I'm looking forward to reading the book to see if it is as good if not better than the film. I'm also looking forward to getting the rest of the trilogy if I like this one.

Consparicy- Charlotte Grieg

This is actually a non-fiction book, something I don't read that much of. I wasn't expecting this book as I didn't ask for it but as my family knows I love conspiracies they saw it as a no-brainer. I've already read this book as I write this and it was V. good, a fascinating introduction into the world of conspiracy.

Now let's move on to the books I got for Christmas.

The Hate You Give- Angie Thomas

I have heard nothing but good things about this book which is why I can not wait to get stuck in. Its got very high praise from so many trustworthy authors, so you just know it's going to be good.

Fan Girl- Rainbow Rowell

I feel kind of bad that I have never read a Rainbow Rowell book before. Of all the ones she has published, I knew I had to ask for this one. I don't know much about this book apart from its a booktuber favourite, and the main character has anxiety, so I'm looking forward to reading to see how good the representation is.

The Night Circus- Erin Morgenstern

Another Booktuber favourite which I don't know all too much about apart from it's about a mysterious circus that appears at night. I had to ask for it as it sounds right up my alley and has rave reviews.

One of us is lying-  Karen M. McManus

When I read the synopsis of this book a while back, I knew I had to add it on to my Christmas wishlist right away. Think breakfast club meets murder mystery. Another book that sounds right up my street that I can't wait to get stuck into.

Yes, I got another copy of The sun is also a star by Nicola Yoon- well-done mum! This should be appearing in a giveaway on Twitter soon so keep your eyes peeled for that!

Fantastic Beasts and where to find them- J.K Rowling

Finally, got this in my collection! I love the film so much, and I am beyond excited about the release of the new Fantastic beasts movie, next November!

And finally, let's move on to books I have purchased myself this month.

So, I walked into my local garden centre, where there is a Works, which is a bookworms heaven- cheap books everywhere. They had three books for £5 deal going on which of course I fell victim to.

Paper Towns- John Green

I managed to finish this on Christmas Eve. If I'm honest, it wasn't anything special. It didn't do much for me at all. The plot was a bit boring and the ending was a bit of a letdown. It was by no means terrible it just wasn't a favourite of my mine by any stretch of the means.

Eleanor and park- Rainbow Rowell

I've now got two Rainbow Rowell books to get lost in, next year. I know even less about this book than I do Fangirl but I had to pick it up as it is such an amazing deal and this has been on my TBR for like forever.

Cold Kill- P.J Tracy

Unofrtuenly, Eleanor, and park and paper towns where the only books that I recognised in my local works but to make the most of the deal I needed to pick up another book. So, I randomly picked up this one. I know nothing about it, apart from I think its a crime mystery novel, let's hope its good.

You're probably wondering why I picked up three books for £5 yet there are four books in the picture? Well, you're not going crazy- don't worry!

The keeper of lost things- Ruth Hogan

I picked up this cheeky book in a charity shop in my local town. I also don't know much about this book, but I do know that it was part of Richard and Judy's book club only this year, so I was surprised to see it in a charity shop for a bargain £1.25, I had to get my hands on it!

And there we have it, my December book haul. In future, they will never be this big, but December is always a big month what with my birthday and Christmas.

I would love to know your thoughts on any of these books if you have read them in the comments below!

Thanks for reading, as always X
