Feel Good Favourites For Bad Mental Health Days

Feel Good Favourites For Bad Mental Health Days depression mental illness OCD awareness anxiety

Most people will struggle with their mental health, at some point in their life. If you are fortunate enough not to, you will experience a bad day, a bad week etc. it is just a fact of life. It's annoying and frustrating, don't get me wrong but wouldn't everyone be really boring if they never had to overcome adversity? I never wanted mental health problems but they have shaped me into the person I am today and that, in my eyes is a good thing.

We all know what it is like to have a bad day. Most of the time these days are often caused by factors outside of our control. We can't control what happens to us but we can control how we react (to some degree) I didn't choose to react to bad situations by obsessively washing my hands until they bleed but with treatment and therapy I was able to realise that I didn't have to react in this way anymore. Through a lot of hard work, I slowly reworked my thought processes, so that I came to understand that I can't control everything, but I now can control how I react.

So, you may be thinking what has this got to do with feel-good favourites? Well, when I have a bad day I used to wallow in it. I would watch sad videos or listen to sad songs because that's how my depression really manifested itself. But I realised that actually if I was starting to feel low or sad, I could actively do something to stop the low mood getting out of control. This is where my feel-good favourites come in...

FRIDAY NIGHT DINNER

This is my one of my favourite easy going, comedies. In essence, it follows a family of four who are Jewish, where the two sons come home every Friday for Friday night dinner. It is a really simple premise, but I think it is laugh out loud funny. The episodes are only 30 mins long, they are easy to watch and don't require much concentration. What I love about Friday night dinner the most is that it is British. I don't get American comedy, so this show never fails to make me chuckle. The first two series are on Netflix!

8 OUT OF 10 CATS

Another British comedy but this time it is a panel show. 8 out of 10 cats is hosted by Jimmy Carr, who I don't love but he is bearable and the two team hosts who used to be Jon Richardson and Sean Lock but are now Aisling Bea and Rob Becket, all of which are hilarious. The two teams just try and guess the most talked about things of the week and sometimes, they do other challenges. The backlog of series are on ALL4, and whenever I'm feeling down and need a quick pick me up, I throw on an episode that I know will make me chuckle.

WOULD I LIE TO YOU?

Guess what? Another British comedy panel show, can you tell I like my British Comedy? The host is Rob Brydon, and the team captains are David Mitchell and Lee Mack, all of which I find very funny. The premise of this show is just guessing whether someone is telling the truth or lying. Another very basic premise but the British humour and jokes get me every time.  This is always a go-to TV show to watch if I'm having a bad day.

FUNNY YOUTUBE VIDEOS

If you live in the U.K and have never watched This Morning, I don't know what you have been doing with your life. If you want to laugh out loud, watch This Morning compilation videos on Youtube. I go and watch them all the time when I feel in need of a cheer up because Phillip and Holly are comedy gold and never fail to put a smile on my face. I also really like to watch, Saturday night takeaway pranks or get out of my ear, both have serious feel-good vibes. I also love Allan Carr, Chatty man interviews because that man...that man though!

THE TROLLS

I don't have many feel-good films that I like to watch when I'm sad. My favourite genre is horror and thrillers which although act as a good distraction, hardly make me laugh. However, one film that I love to watch is the trolls! The bright colours, the happy-clappy soundtrack. I just LOVE it! I really don't care if it is meant for kids, it warms my heart even on the darkest days.

HAPPY PLAYLIST

I think I have done blog posts on this before, but I have a happy playlist. This is a playlist filled with happy songs, which I am always adding to when I discover new ones. I listen to this playlist all the time, even when I am in a good mood because it just brightens my spirits. It's easy when you're sad to listen to sad music which can make you feel worse. I know I do this a lot which is why I created this playlist to lift my mood, whenever I was sad, wherever I am.
