Christmas Gift Guide For Those Who Struggle With Their Mental Health

Christmas can be a stressful period for us all, but when you struggle with your mental health, it can be even worse. increased anxiety, stress or SAD can be just some of the many mental health problems people struggle with during the festive period.

Not only is Christmas, a stressful time for many which can exacerbate existing mental health problems but the period after Christmas, the new year, can be even worse. Many people hate the cold, miserable months of January and February with nothing to look forward and the stress of paying off those large Christmas bills looming over us.

Even though Christmas, can be a lovely time to spend with family and friends, it is not that easy for everyone, which is why, I think, if you know someone who is struggling with their mental health, Christmas can be a perfect opportunity to buy them something which might help ease their struggles or pain. There are lots of little things which may really help those who struggle with mental illness. Although nothing is going to magically make their problems go away, I'm certain they will be thankful for any extra support they receive, this Christmas.

1. MOTIVATIONAL  ZINES

Motivational zines are such a thoughtful gift to give to someone this Christmas. They are great tools you can carry around with you in your bag and pick up to read if you are having a bad day. Filled with positive quotes and advice, a good motivational zine can pull you out of a bad day and keep you feeling strong during one of the most challenging times of the year, for many.

One place, to pick up some good quality, amazing mental health zines, is Fiona likes to blog Etsy shop. Affordable and inspiring, these motivational and feel good zines are almost guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. With beautiful artwork and fantastic quotes, if you know someone who struggles with their mental health, I'm certain they will be so thankful to receive one of these, this Christmas. Fiona sells a range of products on her Etsy shop and with free UK shipping, these will make such a perfect gift this Christmas.

2. MENTAL HEALTH BOOKS

There is such a vast range of books about mental health on the market. Whether you are after a fiction book about mental health, a memoir from a celeb who has struggled with their mental health or a self-help book, there are thousands to choose from.

Although I've not read every single one, that would be impressive. I have read a fair few in my time. One of my favourites is Trigger Publishing. Trigger is an independent publishing house which publishes books all about mental health, from people who have had real life lived experience. They have published books covering a wide range of topics from eating disorders, to anxiety and bipolar to OCD.

These books do an amazing job at tackling the stigma that surrounds mental illness and breaking down stereotypes but they are also fantastic sources of support and advice. These books are very good quality and would make a perfect gift for someone who is struggling with a particular mental illness, to help them feel less alone or get some support and advice, from other real people who have struggled with the same illness.

3. NOTEBOOKS

This item might seem a little random and pointless but I think it can be a really thoughtful gift which doesn't scream mental health. Notebooks are wonderful, as a stationery addict I have to say that! Notebooks can be used for so many different things, including helping people who struggle with their mental health.

If you struggle with a mental illness, notebooks can be used as a diary to document your thoughts and feelings. Sometimes it is easier to put everything on a page in front of you instead of having all these thoughts spiralling around your head. An equally useful way to use notebooks is to track mood, exercise or goals. For people who struggle with their mental health, it can be hard to recognise how far they've come and be proud of the successes, even the small ones.

With so many pretty designs to chose from, and at a wide variety of prices, there is something for everyone's budget.

  4. PAMPER PRODUCTS

It is important for everyone to take time out from their busy routines, to treat themselves now and again. One really easy and effective way to do this is with a pamper night. Whether that be, applying a face mask, putting on luxurious skin creams or painting your nails, having an evening to look after yourself and your body is important.

For those who struggle with their mental health, this can be even more important. Taking time out for yourself can ease stress and anxiety. There is no better time than winter to light some candles, have a warm bubble bath and chill out. Although this form of self-care isn't going to be for everyone, if you know someone who does struggle with their mental health and does like to pamper themselves, buying some of their favourites pamper/self-care products this Christmas is likely to put a big smile on their face.

I hope you guys enjoyed this Christmas gift guide. I hope it has given you some ideas of what gifts to get those people in your life who struggle with their mental health, that are useful and hopefully will help them in some of the most stressful periods.

Thanks for reading, as always X
