All The Rage By Cara Hunter | Book Review

Love suspenseful crime thrillers, with shocking twists and an ending you don't see coming? Look no further than All The Rage by Cara Hunter, which was kindly sent to me for review by the lovely people over at Viking books*. If you love dark crime thrillers, you are not going to want to miss out on this amazing new book!

What is All The Rage about?

A teenage girl is found wandering the outskirts of Oxford, dazed and distressed. The story she tells is terrifying. Grabbed off the street, a plastic bag pulled over her face, then driven to an isolated location where she was subjected to what sounds like an assault. Yet she refuses to press charges.

DI Fawley investigates, but there's little he can do without the girl's co-operation. Is she hiding something, and if so, what? And why does Fawley keep getting the feeling he's seen a case like this before?

And then another girl disappears, and Adam no longer has a choice: he has to face up to his past. Because unless he does, this victim may not be coming back . . .

What I loved about All The Rage:

This is the fourth installment in the DI Adam Fawley series, but what I love about this series is that these books can be read as both a standalone or as part of the series. I always recommend reading the whole series because you get to know the main characters and their back stories. The whole series is fantastic and All The Rage was no exception.

In all of Cara Hunter's books she has included multi media elements e.g. interview transcripts, social media posts etc. but in this book she got really creative with these parts. They really add to the reading experience. There are a lot of crime books out there but I always remember Cara Hunter's books because of the really ingenious creative multi media elements.

Just like her other books, the plot of this book was really strong. She takes what can be quite an overdone premise, turns it on its head and makes it completely original and different. I was enthralled throughout constantly trying to guess the ending and I still didn't see it coming.

I absolutely love the characters in this book. I get really invested in their personal lives and backgrounds. Adam Fawley is one of the most 'real' and inspiring characters I have ever read. The characters in this book are really special, in my opinion.

All The Rage is a dark, twisty but utterly compelling thriller. If you love crime thrillers and police procedural, but you want to read something fresh and unique in the genre, I can't recommend All The Rage enough.

What I didn't like about All The Rage:

Honestly, this book is basically perfection. A solid, twisty, gripping crime thriller. Normally, I would say that I don't love books which don't have chapters, which this book doesn't have any, however, because this book is so gripping and easy to read, I easily fly through it in one sitting. Also, with the added multi media elements, its easy to not notice the fact there are no chapters, anyway.

Who do I recommend All The Rage to?

I recommend All The Rage to everyone! If you love crime thrillers and you haven't checked this book out (or the rest of the series for that matter) you are really missing out. If you are new to the world of crime thrillers, I think this book and the rest of the series would be a perfect introduction and I guarantee you will be wanting more.

I would however, just add that this book is very dark and does cover some quite sensitive issues which some readers may find upsetting. I would give trigger warnings for rape, sexual assault and suicide. There are some more trigger warnings which may give spoilers for the book, but if you think you might want to know those, I would do some research before going in to the book.

However, if you can stomach quite difficult topics and triggering subject mater, I couldn't recommend this book enough.

Overall thoughts:

I ended up giving All The Rage, four stars. This is such a gripping, twisty crime thriller that will have you guessing to the very end. All The Rage is really a breath of fresh air in the crime thriller genre, unique, original and totally compelling- I highly recommend!
