The Alibi Girl By C.J Skuse | Book Review

If you are looking for a dark, weird and very unique thriller, you are definitely going to want to keep on reading. Today I'm taking part in the blog tour for The Alibi Girl by C.J Skuse with HQ books*. C.J Skuse is one of my favourite authors of all time, this book is phenomenal, I swear this author can do no wrong...

What is The Alibi Girl about:

JOANNE HAYNES HAS A SECRET.
THAT IS NOT HER REAL NAME.

And there’s more. Her flat isn’t hers. Her cats aren't hers. Even her hair isn’t really hers.

Nor is she any of the other women she pretends to be. Not the bestselling romance novelist who gets her morning snack from the doughnut van on the seafront. Nor the pregnant woman in the dental surgery. Nor the chemo patient in the supermarket for whom the cashier feels ever so sorry. They're all just alibis.

In fact, the only thing that’s real about Joanne is that nobody can know who she really is.

But someone has got too close. It looks like her alibis have begun to run out….

What I loved about The Alibi Girl:

Honestly, I loved everything about this book. It is one of my favourites that I have read this year. There is just something so refreshing and fun about C.J Skuse's books, I love every single one and The Alibi Girl was no exception.

One of the main reasons I loved The Alibi Girl (and all of C.J Skuse's writing for that matter) is that it is so easy to read. They are so funny and sarcastic. The writing is so engaging. I found myself chuckling throughout reading this book. If you love the good old British sense of humor, I think you'll love this book.

I absolutely loved Joanne as a character. While she isn't the most likable character in the world, I really felt for her and her story. I really connected to her and I was very invested in her story. It takes a lot of skill to be able to do that and C.J Skuse does it fantastically.

It takes a lot for a book to move me, especially a thriller but I did find myself tearing up at the end of this book, which never happens when I read thrillers. I was so engrossed in the story I didn't want it to end.

If you love dark, witty, unique thrillers, I can not sing this book's praises enough. I highly recommend it

What did I not like about The Alibi Girl:

I don't have a bad word to say about this book. Yes, maybe it isn't the most fast paced thriller in the world but sometimes I'm not always looking for a high energy, action packed thriller. I'll take the dynamic characters and hilarious writing any day of the week.

Who do I recommend The Alibi Girl to:

EVERYONE! Honestly, if you are breathing I want you to pick this book up and then go and read all her other books. C.J Skuse is such an unrated thriller author in my opinion. Her books are absolutely fantastic, they are dark, gritty but will make you laugh out loud. I can't recommend The Alibi Girl enough.

However, I would just add some trigger warning for graphic violence and discussions around suicide, just in case that is something you want to be aware of before going in.

Overall thoughts:

I think it is pretty clear by now that I LOVED this book. I gave it a full five stars. Please do yourself a favor pick it up and I can promise you, you won't regret it.
