The Thursday Murder Club By Richard Osman | Book Review

Today I'm taking part in the blog tour for the really exciting new release The Thursday Murder club by well known TV star and comedian Richard Osman, which was kindly sent to me by Viking books*. If you like cosy British murder mysteries then I think you're going to love this book.

What is The Thursday Murder Club About:

In a peaceful retirement village, four unlikely friends meet up once a week to investigate unsolved murders.

But when a brutal killing takes place on their very doorstep, the Thursday Murder Club find themselves in the middle of their first live case.

Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron might be pushing eighty but they still have a few tricks up their sleeves.

Can our unorthodox but brilliant gang catch the killer before it's too late?

What I liked about The Thursday Murder Club:

This is a really well written and interesting cosy murder mystery. It is definitely more of a murder mystery than a really exciting and action packed thriller though.

One of my favourite things about this book was the fact that the characters were older. I really do like reading older characters in books but its something that you don't see that often.

I also really liked how British this book was. There were a lot of fun British references that made this book super enjoyable to read.

For a debut novel, I think the writing was really good and it will be interesting to see where this series goes in the future.

What I did not like about The Thursday Murder Club:

I did really enjoy this book, however, I went in thinking it was more of a thriller than a murder mystery which it wasn't. So my expectations were slightly off, thus, I didn't really like this book as much as if I went in thinking it was a cosy murder mystery with a lot of dialogue rather than action.

However, that is not the books fault and more of a reflection of my lack of research but it is something to be aware of if you think this is going to be an action packed thriller.

Who do I recommend The Thursday Murder Club to:

I recommend this book to people who love cosy murder mystery books and those who like books who feature older characters rather than young protagonists. I also think if you'll British you will definitely be able to relate and chuckle to some of the references in this book.

Overall thoughts:

Overall, this is a really fun and enjoyable cosy murder mystery. It was really well written for a debut so I look forward to reading more books from Richard Osman in the future.

This book comes out on the 3rd of September
