The Disappearance of Stephanie Mailer By Joel Dicker | Book Review

Today I'm taking part in the blog tour for  The Disappearance of Stephanie Mailer which was kindly sent to me by Quercus Books*. If you are looking for an engrossing mystery which will take you on one hell of a journey, then you will have to check out this book!

What Is The Disappearance of Stephanie Mailer About?

In the summer of 1994, the quiet seaside town of Orphea reels from the discovery of three murders.

Confounding their superiors, two young police officers, Jesse Rosenberg and Derek Scott crack the case and identify the killer, earning themselves handsome promotions and the lasting respect of their colleagues.

But twenty years later, just as he is on the point of taking early retirement, Rosenberg is approached by Stephanie Mailer, a journalist who believes he made a mistake back in 1994 and that the real murderer is still at liberty, perhaps ready to strike again. Before she can give any more details however, Stephanie Mailer mysteriously disappears without trace, and Rosenberg and Scott are forced to confront the awful possibility that her suspicions might have been accurate.

What happened to Stephanie Mailer?

What did she know?

And what really happened in Orphea all those years ago?

What I Liked About The Disappearance of Stephanie Mailer:

This book is one hell of a mystery. It is very long and very detailed but I loved the structure of this book because you are trying to solve two interrelated mysteries at once.

I really enjoyed the writing style of this book. It was very captivating and I was hooked till the very end. I definitely did not see the ending coming.

The characters were really interesting too. This is a very unique book and one I won't be forgetting for a while.

What I Did Not Like About The Disappearance of Stephanie Mailer:

I really did enjoy this book, however, it was very long. Although, this meant that the book was very detailed, I wasn't sure that all these details were absolutely necessary. It did feel convoluted at times.

However, apart from that I really did enjoy this book. If you are looking for a long, detailed mystery to engross yourself in, you won't go wrong with The Disappearance of Stephanie Mailer.

Who Do I Recommend The Disappearance of Stephanie Mailer To:

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves detailed and long mysteries with complex story lines which keep you guessing till the end.

This book makes references to suicide, violence and murder. If those are things you find triggering maybe give this book a miss.

Overall Thoughts:

The Disappearance of Stephanie Mailer is a very long, detailed mystery but is very well written and will keep you guessing right till the very end. Highly recommend!
